Do you look after someone?

If you help someone who couldn't manage without you, you are a carer. You don’t have to use this word if you don’t want, and many choose not to. They say husband, wife, child, mum, neighbour, friend. But whether you use the word or not, it opens the door to support, money and rights that exist to help make your life, and the life of the person you care for, easier.

Learn more by joining the Improving Lives carers team at our Carers Rights Day Event. We’ll be there to answer all questions in a low pressure, no commitment environment.

When: Thursday 19 November 2026, 11am to 3pm
Where: Plymouth Methodist Central Hall, Eastlake Street, Plymouth PL1 1BA
Cost: Free. Booking is not required.

What to expect on the day

We will be joined by organisations from across Plymouth who offer support and services to carers. Each will have a different offer for you, and you can explore at your own pace.

  • Find out if you’re a Carer, and what that means.
  • Ask about a Carer's Assessment. A free conversation about how caring affects your life and what support could help.
  • Check what money you could be missing. Check out one of our free financial checklists for carers and talk it through with us.
  • Know your rights. Carers have rights at home, at work and in hospital that you deserve to have explained in plain language.
  • Talk to us about anything! Seriously, we’re just here to listen.

Support from Improving Lives is always available, not just on Carers Rights Day.
